To Speak with No Words
by Jeremy Wilmer
I play so that I can speak with no words.
I learn tunes so I'll begin to know what is said.
I play with others to explore the implications of what is said.
I improvise to find something that I can say.
I write to remember what I've said.
I play with others what I've written to see their reflection upon what
I've said, and its reflection upon them.
But mostly I play so that I can speak with no words.
It is something to say that one has spoken with no words.
