Dewey Balfa
The late Dewey Balfa just about single-handedly revived Cajun music with his
appearance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1964. Following his thunderous reception by the
thousands of folkies there, he returned to Louisiana with the word that Cajun
music had an audience and was worth preserving. Ai-eeee! The rest is folk music
history! For more about Dewey and his brothers, check
out Balfa Toujours, a site for the band
founded by Dewey's daughter, Christine. Balfa Toujours keeps the spirit of Dewey and his
brothers alive in their wonderful music.
