At the Dance
by Donna Hébert
Medley tunes
like deciding which part
of a lover's body
to concentrate on first
Get inspired -
the light,
the day,
the season,
the guitarist,
the way you feel -
Let the rhythm sway
to the dance
in your blood
Shimmy off the rails into
a fiddler's dream
Slide into the groove
and do that boogaloo
thing with your bow,
throwing notes
at the dancers'
rhythm spot,
watching them bend
to the bounce
Arc of heaven
in the right hands
Spirit, I humbly pray
those hands be mine
for even one moment tonight
